You can easily import a batch of new publications, or edit the metadata of existing publications, using a spreadsheet like Excel or LibreOffice.

For a general description of the import process, see this article. You can also import your data using the ONIX 3.0 standard.

You can obtain the Excel file to be used as the source of the metadata import in two ways:

  • by exporting the desired metadata from the platform into a dynamic Excel report;
  • by downloading and filling in this Excel file template.

Structure of the document

To import an Excel file, make sure you follow the guidelines below.

  • Cell A1 always contains the version number. It should not be changed. Otherwise, rows 1 and 2 contain only documentation. Their content is ignored.
  • Row 3 contains the column names. For them to be correctly interpreted, their names must be identical to what is expected.
  • Row 4 and beyond contain the metadata. You can use the name or the ONIX equivalent.

Use a single line per publication format (e.g. one line for EPUB, one line for PDF).

A complete sample file, in Excel format, including all documentation is available under this link.

You can add or remove columns, and place them in the desired order to suit your specific needs. When a group is defined (e.g. Contributor, Price, Collections), all its components are required.

Groups can be repeated, you can add as many as you need.

The ISBN and the title are always mandatory.
