When you first open a borrowed ebook on your Mac, you must first unlock it with a password. This password is provided to you by the platform as an answer to a secret question.

Once your loan is unlocked, you can access it without an Internet connection.

You can retrieve the password for each of your loans on the platform:

  • at the borrowing stage, in the download screen;
  • at any time, in the Loans and Holds section of your profile.

If you have not yet installed the Thorium Reader application on your Mac, please see the installation procedure for MacOS.

If Thorium Reader is already installed on your Mac, here is how to open the borrowed publication and start reading:

  1. If just downloaded the ebook file, you can open it directly from your browser by clicking on it once the download is complete.
  2. Click on your Mac's desktop.
  3. In the menu, click File.
  4. Click New Finder window.
  5. In the Finder window, click on Downloads.
  6. Click on the desired file. This file has the extension .lcpl.
  7. By default, the file opens in the Thorium Reader application.
  8. In Thorium, click on the cover image of the desired publication to open it. On the first opening of a publication, Thorium will ask you to enter a password.
  9. Enter the answer to the secret question provided by the platform as the password. The ebook is unlocked and opens normally. You will not have to enter that password again.

Your computer must be connected to the Internet to initially unlock your ebook.

If the downloaded file does not open automatically in Thorium and has the extension .acsm, you will need to open it using Adobe Digital Editions.
